Are you sick of feeling inadequate?
Ready to ditch the self-doubt?
What if I told you that confidence is a feeling that’s created by your thoughts–and you have complete control over your thoughts?
Confidence actually comes from understanding your value, the intrinsic value and inherent worth that every human being is born with. Once you understand your value, you’ll discover that you have incredible power. Power that comes in the form of confidence!
Confidence helps you be better at anything you are doing. It’s the belief in yourself and your power or abilities that allows you to move forward and face your fears. With confidence, you can face just about anything. Without it, you’ll cower in fear.
The Miracle of You
But here’s the thing.
You are a human being.
And by that fact alone, you are miraculous.
Think about it.
Your brain can compute faster than any machine on the earth.
You are designed to learn and grow on your own.
You are self-healing and self-sustaining.
You’re programmed to watch out for danger and keep yourself safe.
You can reproduce–and you’re useful, too!
In fact, you are among the most complex species on the planet!
The Confidence Killer
In spite of all those amazing things about you, there’s one thing that kills confidence faster than anything else. It’s that little voice inside your head that whispers, “You’re not enough!”
Crazy, isn’t it? You are a living miracle. And yet, you tell yourself on a regular basis that you don’t measure up.
“I’m not pretty enough,” you might say one day.
“I’m not thin enough,” is the lie you tell yourself the next day.
“I’m not smart enough,” is what you say when technology baffles you.
“I’m not a good enough mom,” you tell yourself when your son gets called to the principle’s office.
“I’ll never make enough money,” you say when your paycheck doesn’t quite cover the bills.
You believe you’re inadequate and you’ll never measure up. It’s a lie we all believe on some level and in some form, but when you understand your true nature, you can begin to recover your confidence. You can begin to see yourself as the miraculous being that you are.
You may only get glimpses of it at first. That’s normal. Confidence seems to come and go in cycles. You do something amazing and you start to believe. Then that voice kicks in again and you lose whatever confidence you may have gained. Then you receive a compliment and you feel your self-esteem swell again. Then your boss yells at you and you realize you really are a loser.
Breaking the Cycle
There’s only one way to break the cycle and be completely confident. It’s not an easy task, but it’s the only way I know to create complete confidence.
You have to know yourself and be okay with the authentic version of you.
The thing is, confidence doesn’t come from the outside. It comes from the inside. It isn’t, “They will like me.” Instead, it’s knowing, “I’m still an amazing individual even if they don’t.”
When you know that you are worthy and valuable, not in spite of your mistakes, flaws, challenges, and imperfections, but BECAUSE of them–that’s true confidence. When you can love yourself on the good days, as well as the bad–that’s true confidence. When you’re okay with being human and are willing to experience all the things that come with humanness–that’s true confidence.
True confidence trumps everything else. It trumps being smart, pretty, disciplined, tech-savvy, athletic–everything! When you quit focusing on your actions and start focusing on who you truly are, that’s when the seed of confidence will take hold and begin to grow. That’s when you’ll be able to withstand criticism from your inner voice as well as the voices outside of you. That’s when you’ll know, “I’m enough, just the way I am today.”
Get Up, Step Out, and Live Fully
Oprah Winfrey once said, “I know for sure: Your journey begins with a choice to get up, step out, and live fully.”
If you’re waiting for confidence to find you, you’ll be waiting your entire life. Because confidence is already there, inside of you, waiting for permission to grow. You simply have to believe in yourself and allow it to take hold.
