How I Handled Peeing My Pants (and What It Taught Me About Self-Love)

I pee’d my pants yesterday. It wasn’t a full-on pee, but any woman who’s had children knows exactly what I’m talking about. And honestly? I felt lucky that it was just a little bit—because it could have been much worse!

But that’s not the point…

The Mystery of the Human Body

Our bodies are fascinating. They can be unpredictable, surprising, and sometimes, a complete mystery. But the real tragedy? So many people go through their entire lives without truly knowing, understanding, or appreciating their own body.

Even worse, a lot of us—especially women—spend most of our lives hating our bodies rather than seeing them for the miracles they are. Research shows that up to 81% of adolescent girls and up to 90% of adult women are dissatisfied with their appearance. They focus on weight, skin, hair, or the shape of their body parts, instead of recognizing all the incredible things their body does every single day.

Do You Hate Your Body?

If you struggle with body image, you’re not alone. In fact, based on research, you’re pretty normal! But here’s another truth: your body is probably normal, too. And maybe it’s time to shift your self-talk to something more nourishing.

Because here’s the thing—you can’t hate yourself into change.
When we hate something, we tend to ignore or mistreat it. So if you constantly focus on how much you dislike your body, chances are, you’ll only feel worse.

Instead, try asking yourself these questions:

✔️ What would change if I actively focused on loving my body exactly as it is right now?
✔️ What do I actually like about myself?
✔️ What essential tasks does my body perform for me every day?
✔️ What is one simple thing I can do today to take better care of my body?

Shifting from Shame to Gratitude

Yesterday, when I peed my pants at the grocery store, my old self would have been mortified. I would have spiraled into shame and self-criticism. But these days, I choose to find reasons to love myself instead.

I reminded myself that I’ve given birth five times. My body has carried, nurtured, and birthed five amazing humans—some of whom now have babies of their own (who I absolutely adore). Would I trade my body’s history for a perfectly tight pelvic floor? Nope. Not a chance.

So, instead of letting embarrassment take over, I finished my shopping with a smile on my face, thinking about my beautiful family. Then I went home and changed my pants!

What About You?

Do you struggle with body image, too? What do you do when your inner mean girl chimes in with negative thoughts about your body? And what’s one small thing you could do today to start shifting those thoughts into something more positive?

Let’s talk about it—because our bodies deserve love, not hate. ❤️
